But yes, I feel pretty good now. Just need to get myself a job and everything will be really good!
The United States crashed out of the World Cup tonight, losing to Ghana 2:1. While the team weren't that good, the fans supporting the United States were rather impressive. You yanks certainly breed dedicated nutters (a breed of people I greatly respect... can't think why, though), even if your football players struggle from time to time. However, I have to mention that one of the sports papers had a scary statisitic: more money is spent on Ice Cream in the USA than is spent on Education and Health Care in Ghana. Makes you think, doesn't it.

I love the "Learn to do it" filk. It kept me amused for a good, long while. You have to sing it to a tune in your head. If you can make it the actual tune, all the better!

G'luck on the job hunt! On the ice cream stat-different economy/structure, so not an accurate comparison.

Well, I compared the populations. The US has roughly 13.5 times the population of Ghana. Which, when you think about it, isn't enough to explain the disparity away. It's just an illustration of how poorly the other half is living. Yes, their economy/structure is completely different. That's the point, really.
It also... returning to the world of Sport... illustrates how well the Ghana football team have done in qualifying for the next round of the World Cup!

But that's neither here nor there if J has been cured of a bad mood. :)

I hate trying to get my head around economics, but the fact is that an entire college course would be very difficult to run in Ghana, because they'd have to get import skills, which they can't do because what might seem like a fair price for teachers in Ghana would only buy a fraction of a good icecream cone (to continue the comparison) abroad. And that's the problem, really, as all countries need to import, especially ones which are in the grips of great poverty and will have low natural resources and brain drains.

I can make fun of the US, but you'd better stop making cracks about baseball or I'll...do something, I'm sure.

Look at Women's Soccer. Female soccer has the best support there than anywhere else in the world, 'cause you actually win World Cups at it.

And we're going to win next year too! We have a fantastic Women's Soccer team, and though we really are way, way low on the totem pole of the sports world, the women do get quite a few people out to their games. And since the WWC is next year, I get to start watching all the qualifying matches, so it's defintely a soccer (football) year for me.
Although I do wonder at England's WNT, I'd think you'd have a fairly decent one, but it's not even a blip on the radar as far as threats to breaking the top 10 of the best teams. We've played Ireland once or twice in some friendlies, but I can't remember the last time we played England. Any thoughts on that?
As far as the U.S. getting into soccer, it's happening, slowly but surely. I don't know that we'll ever be at the level of the rest of the world, but there was quite a showing for the U.S. in the audience of some of our games over there in Germany. And the U.S. games have rated pretty high ratings, so that's also a good sign.
Whew, sorry about the long post!

la-lalala! Not listening!
See, it's the "national" day of Québec tommorow, so I tend to feel a bit more loyal to France right now. Go Frenchies! Bad British Empire! ...but ask me again in a week, it's gonna be Canada Day. ;)
And this is not an history lesson. Thank you very much.

*is such a tattletail*
My housemates, including a good friend called Rosie, were watching the American election one or two years ago (or whenever it was) and a very respected presenter was interviewing a French correspondent about the French view on the upcoming election. At the end of the interview the presenter goes to the French correspondent, "But who cares what France thinks, you're just a nation of cheese-eating surrender monkeys". Our house's jaws fall open. The correspondent is clearly shocked herself but (to her credit) manages to make a relatively weak come back about roast beef.
About an hour later, Rosie's phone rings, and it's her older sister, who is employed by the BBC and it turns out that she was the voice in the presenters ear for the night and had "dared" him to make the comment!
Well... there you go! I thought a tail of dastardly britishness would help you feel more French!

That "Learn to Do It" song had me smiling so wide. I had it playing in the background while reading the lyrics. LOL.
Sorry your head's been in "splodey" mode. (?) (lol) But thank you for taking the time out to respond to my problems. And I'm glad you're happy again. What sort of job are you looking to get? The English teacher gig?

Just looking for a summer job, really. I need to do a Masters and other qualifications before I become a teacher.
